THE GROUP WHICH REVOLUTIONIZED CARIBBEAN MUSIC IN THE SEVENTIES EXILE ONE Exile one was formed in Guadeloupe in November 1973. Gordon Henderson a Dominican was one of the singers of Guadeloupe's premier touring band Les Vikings which included musicians such as Pierre Edourd Decimus who later formed the famous Zouk band Kassav. The band in little time created its own musical style called Cadence-lypso which was to revolutionize all of the Caribbean music of the time. Exile One was the first Creole group to sign a recording contract with a major label. The first to sell gold in France without the assistance of radio and television a phenomenon which sparked the interest of Billboard. Most Africans who listened to music in the seventies will accept that they discovered Caribbean music through Exile One. Also, some Haitians at the time thought the group was Haitian. Read more in Gordon Henderson's books:ZOUKLAND and A HISTORY OF CADENCE-LYPSO.
